Hautefort Castle
This former medieval fortress was converted into a château in the 17th century. Over time, the site has undergone a number of transformations, including the development of a formal garden in the 19th century and a landscaped park. Wander around the castle and admire the portraits of Queen Mother Elizabeth of England. During the summer, there are a number of evening events, so stay tuned!
Visit the Lascaux cave
In all, the history of Lascaux has 4 dedicated sites highlighting the discovery of this unique cave art, which takes us back to the life of Cro-Magnon man. Some 16 other caves and chasms can also be discovered along the Vézère and Dordogne rivers.
Discover Sarlat and its pleasures
Dating back to the 9th century, Sarlat is the capital of the Périgord Noir region. Black too is its local gold (the truffle), which can be found in a covered market as famous as Brive's on Wednesday and Saturday mornings.
In mid-November, the Sarlat film festival takes place in the narrow streets of the town, welcoming the greatest actors of the moment.
Sarlat is also famous for its Christmas market, with a new theme every year and a village decorated in the colours of France's favourite holiday. What's more, the market is listed as one of the most beautiful in France! Finally, if you're a gourmet, you'll be delighted by the many events organised around local products and brasseries celebrating truffles, geese and duck products.
From Nontron to Brantôme
The capital of the Périgord Vert region, Nontron is an unusual village that will immediately win you over with its natural terraced layout and pretty 13th-century ramparts. Take the D675 down for around twenty kilometres and you'll arrive in Brantôme, the Green Venice of Périgord. Facing a troglodyte abbey, the medieval town, encircled by the River Dronne, offers magical sights and discoveries that you'll find hard to leave.
